1 Minute Prayer
As Catholics, we are often held in reproach by non-Catholics for our devotion to Mary. However, Mary’s role in salvation is clearly defined and so is her intercessory power.
Here is a look at three powerful reasons why you should have a strong devotion to Mary.
1. She is a Powerful intercessor

We often ask our friends and our family members to pray for us. While this is a good thing, how much more powerful it is when we ask the Blessed Mother to intercede for us.
Do you remember the scene from the wedding in Cana? The wine had run out and they needed more. Mary is the one who went directly to Jesus and asked him to do something. Jesus was reluctant to do it.
However, he eventually relented at the urging of his mother and performed his first miracle. He turned water into wine. This shows us the influence that Mary has over her son.

When asking for Mary’s intercession we are essentially asking her to put in a good word for us or to pray along with us and as many of the saints have said, it is powerful.

“O sinner, be not discouraged, but have recourse to Mary in all your necessities. Call her to your assistance, for such is the divine Will that she should help in every kind of necessity.”- Saint Basil the Great
This is why the words from the Memorare are so powerful. Jesus never refuses his mother whom he loves so very dearly.

2. The Devil Fears Her
The devil fears her authority and her humility. She is a Queen of Heaven and of the angels. Destined from the beginning to crush the head of Satan.
The devil knows that this is her destiny. Mary is always shown standing on the head of a snake. Which is symbolic of her role in crushing the head of the serpent by bringing Jesus into this world.

The forces of hell will quickly abandon their agenda against you when you ask for her intercession.
3. It is the Will of Jesus
It is the will of Jesus that we honor his mother. His call on the cross for his disciple to acknowledge Mary as his Mother is a call to all of us who believe in Him.
John 19:25-29
Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”
Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.
